Expedition is an end-game system in Path of Exile 2 where players can use explosives to find Verisium artifacts. There are four main endgame events in Path of Exile 2 Atlas map: Delirium, Breaches, Rituals, and Expeditions. POE 2 improved and reintroduced some of the seasonal mechanics from the original Path of Exile as its own endgame features, which gave rise to Expedition system.
This article will show players how to start an Expedition, how to set up Detonators and Explosives, how to access Delirium Passive Skill Tree, and what special rewards players can get from this end-game POE 2 system.
Expedition And Detonation Mechanic
On the Atlas map display, some key endgame events will be indicated by icons on the map nodes. Map nodes that contain Expeditions will have a light blue spiral icon.
Players can use Expedition Precursor Tablet to ensure that the Expedition phase appears on the Atlas map node. It should be noted that it must be placed in the completed Lost Tower slot.
After loading the map with Expedition, players will then need to explore the area until they find a marked area and a tent, in which one of the four NPCs for this stage will appear. These NPCs will talk to the player and explain the basics of the event, but will not explain to the player the details of how to play within Expedition mechanic.
In the middle of this position in Expedition stage, you will see a Detonator, and a new UI element will appear in the bottom right corner of the screen. Your goal in an Expedition is to place Explosives in the best position to spawn subsequent Runic Monsters, Unearthed Remnants, and Excavated Chests.

Click Explosives button on the screen, and players can then hover over Expedition environment to get a more comprehensive view of its area of effect. Explosives will only activate tags contained within the radius of the green circle.
For optimal Expedition farming, players should spread out their Explosives so that the AoE circles do not overlap.
After placing all available Explosives, return to Detonator and activate it. Explosives will activate all tags within its AoE area, and Runic Monsters that spawn will be empowered by the remnants of the player’s explosions and begin to move.
If you lose combat during an Expedition, the map will reset as normal. But if the player fails in the first battle, don’t worry, you can temporarily leave the area and return later. In the meantime, buy Exalted Orbs POE 2 in time to optimize your equipment to help you be more prepared to face the next battle.
If you leave Expedition area, don’t worry, the event won’t end. A viable strategy is to detonate your Explosives, quickly leave the area, and then return again to use the powerful AoE ability to deal with each excavated enemy at a time.
Expedition Pinnacle Map
In Expedition, Runic Monsters and Excavated Chests have a chance to drop an item called an Expedition Logbook. Talk to Dannig in the Hideout to open Expedition Map for the Logbook, insert the Logbook into the bottom slot at this location, and click “Open Portals”.
Just like Waystone map, Logbook Portals will appear around Map Device and allow players to travel to the inserted Expedition map. This is essentially a giant Expedition event, with three times as many Explosives available as normal.
Expedition Pinnacle Map system has its own Pinnacle Boss, Olroth. This boss doesn’t always spawn in the Logbook map, but the higher the map level, the more likely it is to spawn.
If Olroth is on your current Expedition map, you should see a skull on the minimap. Judge and place your Explosives in the best position to reach the skull and duel with Olroth.
Defeating Olroth is the key to earning Expedition Passive Skill Tree points. Each time you defeat Olroth in the Logbooks, you’ll earn 2 double points. POE 2 players can use these points in a special session of the Atlas Passive Skill Tree dedicated to this event.
What Is Expedition Passive Skill Tree?
Expedition Passive Skill Tree is located in Atlas Passive Skill Tree menu, which adds modifiers to Expedition event. This modifier increases Monster spawn rates and Remnants by increasing Expedition Currency rewards.
To view your Expedition passives, players should open their Atlas Map, select the Atlas Passive Skill Tree menu in the upper left corner, and then click on the upper right corner of the Atlas Skill Tree to view the screen.
Ritual Passive Skill Tree is a glowing blue tree with an outward spiral, and its arms contain eight Notable nodes and eight Logbooks including Olroth Boss.
Whenever a player defeats an Expedition Pinnacle boss, they will receive 2x Expedition Passive Skill points. So every time you find a new Notable node, you must increase the difficulty of the Pinnacle encounter.
Of these Expedition Notable nodes, players should select ‘Disturbed Rest’, ‘Detailed Records’, and ‘Timed Detonations’. These choices will greatly increase the amount of rewards you can get from an Expedition without too much of a downside.
After that, choose ‘Weight of History’, ‘Unearthed Anomalies’, and ‘Legendary Battles’, which will further increase the event difficulty but will also continue to increase your rewards. As the difficulty increases, players can choose to use their Chaos Orbs to increase the durability of the gear and boss battles in more difficult situations.
Avoid using ‘Extreme Archaeology’ passive. This skill looks very powerful, especially to reduce the health of enemies. However, reducing it from 5x Explosives to only 1x will greatly reduce the total rewards you can get from the event. If you accidentally use this skill, it will cost a lot of gold to re-spec it.
Rewards
Artifacts & Currency
The main Expedition rewards that POE 2 players get in Expeditions are Artifacts. There are four types of Artifacts available, and like other POE 2 Currency, they can be collected in large quantities. Each Artifact can be used to trade with a specific Expedition event vendor, who will provide a range of specific types of equipment.
During each Expedition encounter, there is one vendor, so you can only access one vendor’s inventory per Expedition encounter. However, Artifacts are not removed from your inventory after completing the map, so be sure to carry your artifacts with you when playing Expedition Maps.
You can also earn Exotic Coinage as a reward from Expeditions. POE 2 players can use these to refresh the vendor inventory of the four Expedition NPCs.
Unique Expedition Maps
Expedition Logbooks can rarely drop from Runic Monsters and Excavated Chests. These Logbooks are closely tied to the Expedition Pinnacle system. The Logbook can be taken to Dannig to open an Expedition Map and access many different Expedition zones.
There is also a small chance that Pinnacle Boss – Olroth will appear in these special Expedition Maps. Defeating Olroth will earn you 2x Expedition Passive Skill Tree points, high-tier Currency, and a chance to drop exclusive Uniques. As the difficulty of Expedition Maps and Logbooks increases, Olroth will appear more frequently and drop higher-tier Rewards when the player defeats him.
